Now, we get to the exciting part.

Up to now, except of the Dry Bones thing, it’s all been peace and roses. Well, there’s difficulty in the details. Just remember that Ezekiel 38 and 39 are bringing Israel to the point where THIS happens:

Ezekiel 36:31 Then shall ye remember your evil ways, and your doings that were not good; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

When all hope seems lost, God will reach down and save Israel, showing that He exists and loves His people, prompting introspection and soul searching.

And, revival.

I know that those of you who are Jewish will consider this to be farfetched and outlandish. But, walk with me a bit here. Let’s see how outlandish it really is.

Let’s begin.

Ezekiel 38

1 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, set thy face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

3 and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal:

4 and I will turn thee about, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armor, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords;

5 Persia, Cush, and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet;

6 Gomer, and all his hordes; the house of Togarmah in the uttermost parts of the north, and all his hordes; even many peoples with thee.

Whoa. THAT is a long sentence. But, it does do the job well of getting the list of bad guys out in one go.

I’ve talked in various places about Gog and Magog, so regular readers will understand that Gog and Magog is something like Russia and her client states.

Could Gog be… Moscow? Vladimir Putin? Something larger than that?

Or… Could Gog and Magog be the CSTO, the Russian version of NATO? That’s right, these people:

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is an intergovernmental military alliance which was signed on 15 May 1992. On 7 October 2002, the Presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed a charter in Tashkent founding the CSTO.

Nikolai Bordyuzha was appointed secretary general of the new organization. On 23 June 2006, Uzbekistan became a full participant in the CSTO; and its membership was formally ratified by the Uzbek parliament on 28 March 2008. The CSTO is currently an observer organisation at the United Nations General Assembly.

The CSTO charter reaffirmed the desire of all participating states to abstain from the use or threat of force. Signatories would not be able to join other military alliances or other groups of states,[citation needed] while aggression against one signatory would be perceived as an aggression against all. To this end, the CSTO holds yearly military command exercises for the CSTO nations to have an opportunity to improve inter-organisation cooperation. The largest-scale CSTO military exercise held to date were the “Rubezh 2008″ exercises hosted in Armenia where a combined total of 4,000 troops from all 7 constituent CSTO member countries conducted operative, strategic, and tactical training with an emphasis towards furthering efficiency of the collective security element of the CSTO partnership. A 2011 series of training exercises has recently been held in central Asia consisting of “more than 10,000 troops and 70 combat aircraft”.

Read the rest of the Wikipedia entry here.

Could Gog and Magog be the CSTO?

Notice that all the members of the CSTO are former Soviet Socialist Republics (SSRs), but not all the SSRs are members of the CSTO. Here’s a list of the SSRs:

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan

Who has escaped the clutches of the CSTO?

Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Ukraine

Which of these are Meshech and Tubal?

Rosh, believe it or not, is the Ukraine – what was once known as “The Land of Rus” or Kievan Rus.

Georgia is busily rushing into the arms of NATO, while Vladimir Putin is attempt to pull all the SSRs back into something called the Eurasia Union (EuU).

By the way. In Israel, you tend to pronounce acronyms. EuU is not a pleasant sounding acronym.

Just sayin’.

So, if this prophecy delays long enough, maybe it’s the EWWW… er… EuU that is Gog and Magog.

All of the above basically means that elements of the USSR plus extras come down.

Who are these extras?

Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal – Rosh is the Ukraine. Meshech and Tubal sound like they could be other SSRs.

Persia, Cush, and Put – Cush is Africa, and Put looks like North Africa. Persia is Iran. Did you know that there are moves being made to bring Iran into the CSTO?

Gomer and Togarmah – Turkey and… someone else?

It’s getting pretty crowded in there, so I’m not sure that it quite matters who is who. There are a limited number of candidates for Gog and Magog. There are a limited number of candidates for the rest.

All that we REALLY need to know is that they make up a vast army and try to descend on Israel – and that we see evidence that this army is beginning to form (via the CSTO).

Let’s continue.

7 Be thou prepared, yea, prepare thyself, thou, and all thy companies that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.

Hmmm… Gog is a ‘guard’.

Maybe they’re able to block the UN Security Council? Or, maybe they just wave their nuclear weapons at them.

Russia certainly can, which would certainly act in defense of the CSTO and/or the EuU.

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, upon the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste; but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they shall dwell securely, all of them.

Notice the language here. It connects with chapter 36:

gathered out of many peoples

Ezekiel 36:34 For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.

upon the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste

Ezekiel 36:4 therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord Jehovah: Thus saith the Lord Jehovah to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which are become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are round about;

they shall dwell securely

Ezekiel 36:28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

I don’t want to be too dogmatic here. I think that it’s enough to see the pattern.

9 And thou shalt ascend, thou shalt come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy hordes, and many peoples with thee.

The description of Gog and Magog includes the description of what they will do. And, that description stops here. We go on to the Hows and Whys

10 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: It shall come to pass in that day, that things shall come into thy mind, and thou shalt devise an evil device:

11 and thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates;

12 to take the spoil and to take the prey; to turn thy hand against the waste places that are now inhabited, and against the people that are gathered out of the nations, that have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the middle of the earth.

What is the motivation for coming down?

Greed for plunder.

13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take the spoil? hast thou assembled thy company to take the prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take great spoil?

The other nations of the world hang back in shock and dismay, but do nothing – except a bit of whining.

14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy, and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In that day when my people Israel dwelleth securely, shalt thou not know it?

Ah. Here’s a tricky bit.

How do we define securely here?

Seriously. How many threats do you need to lose that characteristic attributed here?

You can make an excellent case for the idea that Israel is secure right now. The only thing that really threatens Israel is Iran, and right now, they aren’t a threat. (They WILL be when they get nuclear weapons, but at this moment… I think that ‘securely’ is a good way of describing Israel right now.

15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the uttermost parts of the north, thou, and many peoples with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company and a mighty army;

16 and thou shalt come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land: it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring thee against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

God is going to bring this vast army down so that God can demonstrate who He is.

17 Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Art thou he of whom I spake in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, that prophesied in those days for many years that I would bring thee against them?

Is this verse referring to itself?

Interesting.

18 And it shall come to pass in that day, when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah, that my wrath shall come up into my nostrils.

Gog will come down, and then…

19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

20 so that the fishes of the sea, and the birds of the heavens, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.

There will be a titanic earthquake and EVERYTHING will fall down. EVERYTHING.

When you see a huge army come down that looks sorta like what we’re talking about… when you see them start to get close…

GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!

STAY out of the house.

Go camping.

EVERYTHING standing is going to fall down. EVERYTHING.

(at least everything in the vicinity of this army)

21 And I will call for a sword against him unto all my mountains, saith the Lord Jehovah: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.

And, this army actually makes it to mountains that are a part of Israel. They get stuck and start killing each other.

22 And with pestilence and with blood will I enter into judgment with him; and I will rain upon him, and upon his hordes, and upon the many peoples that are with him, an overflowing shower, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

Those last three words tell me that Gog doesn’t make it past the Golan Heights. In fact, I would venture to say that they are STUCK on the Golan Heights. (It’s certainly a great place for an army to regroup on. You’ll see why, tomorrow.)

The Golan is chock full of dormant volcanoes. Not so the Jerusalem mountain range. If you walk around the Golan and places nearby, you’ll see lots of dark, volcanic rock, and many of the older buildings would have been made with it.

The Golan is going to blow up, and take this massive army with it.

23 And I will magnify myself, and sanctify myself, and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.

In the process of all this… because it will happen in the exact way that the Lord describes here… God will be glorified.

And, I’ll win my bet with my Jewish friends over the identity of the Messiah.

Please remember that I want bacon on that cheeseburger, thankyouverymuch.

Turkish insanity continues to intensify.

A few years ago, Israel discovered a massive natural gas field within its economic zone, and everyone in the region immediately started rattling their sabres – standard operating procedure for this rather insane part of the world.

What isn’t standard is Turkey jumping in, opposing Israel and aggressively escalating the conflict.

The Jerusalem Post recently published the following Reuters article:

Turks begin gas exploration, risk feud with Cyprus, Israel

By REUTERS

After Erdogan calls Israeli and Cypriot drilling for gas in Mediterranean “madness,” Turkey risks escalation by sending vessel to area.

ANKARA – A Turkish ship began exploring for gas off the coast of Cyprus on Monday, the Turkish Cypriot government said, an announcement that escalates a confrontation between Cyprus, Israel and Turkey over huge Mediterranean gas reserves.

The Greek Cypriot government said last week it had started drilling for gas at a site south of the island, infuriating Turkey which supports a separate Turkish Cypriot government on the north of the island.

Israel has also been drilling in nearby waters.

The battle over claims to what may be the biggest natural gas discovery in the world for the last decade has widened the split between Turkish and Greek-speaking Cypriots, and harmed Turkey’s relations with Israel, already strained over a deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla last year.

Add this to all the other diplomatic moves Gomer… I mean, Turkey… has been involved in, you can come away with only one conclusion: Gomer… Turkey… is interested in enhancing its hegemony in the region.

As insane as this may sound – and it is insane – it appears to me and others that Gomer is attempting to revive the empire, a sort of Ottoman Empire, v. 2.0.

We are moving straight towards Gog, Magog and Armageddon. This is not going to be pretty. Not at all.

This new, more aggressive Turkey is incredible.

I don’t think that anyone quite knows what Turkey will do next, but it’s pretty clear to me that she’s given up on NATO and the EU and has firmly put her sights on becoming a major player in the Middle East. And, there’s no easier way to become a ‘player’ than to threaten Israel. The problem is that Turkey seems to believe what it’s saying, and that’s worrying to those of us who don’t want another catastrophic war on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean.

And, since the Arabs always lose badly whenever that happens, you would think that they’d be reluctant to play that game again. Apparently, the Arabs have short memories.

Anyway, there are six articles that have caught my attention, so let me exerpt them briefly.

From Geostrategy Direct:

Egypt-Turkey alignment against Israel ‘most important shift since 1949′

WASHINGTON – For the first time, Egypt and Turkey have formed what could become an alliance against Israel, a report said. The Washington Institute for Near East Policy said two U.S. allies in the Middle East were forming a partnership that could result in war against Israel. In a report, the institute said that Turkey, for the first time since 1949, has become hostile toward the Jewish state. “For the first time, the two major states of the eastern Mediterranean are aligning against Israel,” the report said.

Israel realizing Hamas has become a truly international organization

Officials said Turkey has arranged for training of Hamas police and security forces despite being listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States.

Hamas has established close ties with Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party, including Prime Minister Recep Erdogan.

By David Warren

The greatest threat to the world’s peace, at this moment, comes from a man named Recip Tayyip Erdogan. He is the prime minister of Turkey, at the head of the Justice and Development Party (“AK,” from the Turkish). A former mayor of Istanbul, he was arrested and jailed when he publicly recited Islamist verses (“the mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets are our bayonets,” etc.), in defiance of the old secularist, Ataturk constitution, which made it an offence to incite religious and racial fanaticism.

Erdogan Has Good Reason To Be Crazy

by David P. Goldman

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan brings to mind the story about the housewife who calls her husband during rush hour. “Be careful driving home on the Beltway, dear,” she advises. “The news says that there’s a maniac driving in the wrong direction.” “What do you mean, ‘a maniac’?,” he replies. “Everybody’s driving in the wrong direction!”

Now that Turkey has threatened Europe with a “freeze in relations” if Cyprus (as planned) assumes the presidency of the European Union in 2012, it must seem to Erdogan that everyone is driving in the wrong direction. Earlier this month Turkey declared “null and void” the United Nations’ Palmer Commission report, which supported Israel’s right to enforce a blockade against Gaza. That was a minor gaffe, because United Nations dicta have the authority of revelation to the liberal media, except, of course, when they support Israel. It’s one thing for Turkey to freeze relations with Israel — we take it for granted these days that everybody hates Israel — but the Europeans? Everybody likes the Europeans, who have replaced their defense ministries with an answering machine that says, “We surrender.” And over Cyprus? Even Russia, Turkey’s key trading partner and the host for millions of Turkish guest workers, is aghast at Erdogan’s tantrum. Russia has strong ties to Cyprus.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Ankara is seeking a partnership between Turkey and Egypt that will create a new axis of power in the Middle East at a time when US influence in the region is waning.

“This will not be an axis against any other country — not Israel, not Iran, not any other country, but this will be an axis of democracy, real democracy,” Davutoglu said in an interview published in Monday’s New York Times. “That will be an axis of democracy of the two biggest nations in our region, from the north to the south, from the Black Sea down to the Nile Valley in Sudan,” he added.

By Anthony Shadid

ANKARA, Turkey — A newly assertive Turkey offered on Sunday a vision of a starkly realigned Middle East, where the country’s former allies in Syria and Israel fall into deeper isolation, and a burgeoning alliance with Egypt underpins a new order in a region roiled by revolt and revolution.

The portrait was described by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey in an hourlong interview before he was to leave for the United Nations, where a contentious debate was expected this week over a Palestinian bid for recognition as a state. Viewed by many as the architect of a foreign policy that has made Turkey one of the most relevant players in the Muslim world, Mr. Davutoglu pointed to that issue and others to describe a region in the midst of a transformation. Turkey, he said, was “right at the center of everything.”

Understanding Turkey’s Policy of Confrontation with Israel

Prime Minister Erdogan has launched a bid for ownership of the Palestinian cause.

by Jonathan Spyer

On a bright, cold day in mid-January, 1998, I stood with a group of Turkish journalists at the water’s edge on Haifa Bay. A shape appeared on the horizon. It was a Turkish warship, beginning its approach to the Israeli coastline. One of the journalists handed out cigars as the ship slowly drew nearer. We toasted the friendship between Israel and Turkey — and the transformation of the Middle East’s strategic balance.

I was a young official of the Israel Prime Minister’s Office at the time. The Turkish journalists were our guests. They were in Israel to cover the Reliant Mermaid naval exercise. Reliant Mermaid, a joint maneuver involving the Israeli, Turkish, and U.S. navies, launched the strategic alliance between Turkey and Israel which formed a lynchpin of the pro-western dispensation that marked the post-Cold War Middle East.

How things have changed. Turkish navy ships may soon once again be sailing to the eastern Mediterranean. This time, however, they will do so with the real possibility of a clash with their former Israeli comrades in arms. This sentence sounds absurd even as I write it. Yet it is accurate. What has transformed these friends into enemies?

If Ezekiel 38 and Ezekiel 39 hadn’t already talked about this, I would n’t have believed it. Turkey is setting up for war with Israel? Turkey is Gomer?

Amazing.

Things don’t look good for the plucky little State of Israel.

She is surrounded and under siege. Syria is on fire. Iran continues its nuclear weapons program. Turkey has used the Mavi Marmara incident as a casus belli for breaking ties with Israel and moving further down the path towards war. Egypt has been taken over by the army and has allowed the Sinai to become a staging ground for terrorist attack. Europe now supports the Palestinian bid for recognition in the UN. And, the Palestinians are raining rockets down on anything within range.

I’m afraid to even THINK about what’s happening in Jordan.

The question is what’s next?

Here’s the McClatchy article written by Sheera Frankel:

Israel facing ‘diplomatic tsunami’ with Arab neighbors

By Sheera Frenkel | McClatchy Newspapers

JERUSALEM — The attack on the Israeli embassy in Cairo has brought into sharp relief Israel’s increasing isolation in a region still grappling with the changes of the Arab Spring.

Israel was forced to evacuate its ambassador and most of its diplomatic staff from Cairo this weekend after hundreds of Egyptian protesters tore down a security wall protecting the Nile-side embassy, ransacked its files and burned an Israeli flag. It came less than a week after Turkey, Israel’s other major ally in the Muslim world, announced it was expelling the Israeli ambassador and downgrading its relationship to the lowest possible level after a deadly skirmish involving a Turkish aid vessel that was attempting to deliver supplies in defiance of Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

With another potential predicament brewing later this month when the Palestinians are expected to request membership and statehood at the United Nations, Israeli-Arab relations appear to be plunging to their lowest point in years.

“Within a week Israel has found itself two friends down and about to face a so-called diplomatic tsunami with the Palestinians,” said one European envoy in Jerusalem, who spoke on condition of anonymity under diplomatic protocol.

“I would be nervous if I was an Israeli diplomat today.”

The damage to relations with Egypt and Turkey has struck many Israelis. Turkey was the first Muslim-majority country to recognize Israel as a Jewish state in 1949 and Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quick to condemn the attack on the Israeli embassy in Cairo but added that the historic peace agreement between Israel and Egypt was still intact.

“Egypt must not ignore the severe injury to the fabric of peace with Israel and such a blatant violation of international laws,” Netanyahu said Saturday.

Officials in Israel’s foreign ministry, however, said the embassy attack “could not be ignored” and marked a sharp shift in Israel’s diplomatic dealings with its neighbor since the resignation in February of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak — whose dictatorial regime had kept a lid on anti-Israeli sentiment.

“For a long time Israel has benefited from a positive relationship with Egypt that allowed Israel some sense of security. It is clear that Egypt today is not the Egypt of one year ago,” said an Israeli diplomat who also requested anonymity.

“Now Israel will have to look at its border to the south as one more to watch and guard. The burning of the Israeli flag in Cairo symbolized much more to those of us that watched from Jerusalem.”

The image of the burning flag figured prominently on Israeli television this weekend, with several commentators asking whether it would be the last time an Israeli flag flew in Egypt.

…

Turkish officials have said that relations with Israel will not improve until Israel apologizes for the killing last year of nine Turkish nationals aboard a boat that aimed to breach Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Israel has stood by its blockade, and its position was recently bolstered by a U.N. report that found the blockade lawful. The same report, however, said that Israel had used unnecessary and excessive force in stopping boats aiming to break the blockade, including the storming of the Turkish Mavi Marmara ship by Israeli naval commandos, who killed the Turkish nationals.

American officials have tried unsuccessfully to negotiate an apology from Israel to Turkey over the incident. Relations had already soured over Israel’s recent war in Gaza and a series of diplomatic snubs by Lieberman and his deputy.

In about 10 days, Israel likely will face another diplomatic hurdle when the Palestinians are expected to launch a bid for statehood at the U.N. General Assembly. Israel has been maneuvering to quash the bid — which the United States opposes and has threatened to veto — but Palestinians have said they’ll go forward and attempt to win two-thirds support for an independent state that would include East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza.

Several European countries have signaled their willingness to vote in favor of the Palestinian state, putting Israel in a difficult position.

I’ve been expecting this, but that doesn’t lessen how upset I feel about it. War is evil and despicable, and it is yet again being thrust upon an Israel that has done what it can to promote peace. It makes me sick to think that we are on our way to another round of senseless death and destruction.

When will the muslims ever learn?

Just yesterday, Major General Eyal Eisenberg, Chief of IDF Home Front Command, warned:

“It looks like the Arab Spring, but it can also be a radical Islamic winter. This leads us to the conclusion that through a long-term process, the likelihood of an all-out war is increasingly growing.

“Iran has not abandoned its nuclear program. The opposite it true; it continues full steam ahead,” he said. “In Egypt, the army is collapsing under the burden of regular security operations, and this is reflected in the loss of control in the Sinai and the turning of the border with Israel into a terror border, with the possibility that Sinai will fall under the control of an Islamic entity.”

“In Lebanon, Hezbollah is growing stronger within government arms, but it has not lost its desire to harm Israel, and the ties with Turkey aren’t at their best,” Major General Eisenberg added.

Referring to what he characterized as the possibility of a “radical Islamic winter,” Major-General Eisenberg said: “This raises the likelihood of an all-out, total war, with the possibility of weapons of mass destruction being used.”

During his address, the senior IDF official revealed that new, more lethal arms surfaced in the hands of Gaza terror groups during the latest round of fighting in the area. As result of the disturbing development, Israeli civilians were instructed to adopt greater precautions, he said.

“We discovered a new weapon, and as result of this we instructed the public to hide under two roofs, rather than only one,” he said.

He also went on to add that 25% of local authorities in Israel are insufficiently prepared to face emergency situations.

I think that its interesting to see that many in the intelligence community in Israel are upset with General Eisenberg’s comments:

“It’s unclear why an IDF general heats up tensions in the region and why he exposes secret intelligence information about new Palestinian capabilities,” one official said.

I, of course, appreciate hearing what the general said. I can only hope that more people begin to understand what’s coming and what’s happening so that the US can help do something about it.

The problem is that the US is asleep.

Worse, the US appears to be causing some of what is happening.

Not only should I ask if the muslims will ever learn, but I should also ask if WE will ever learn.

It’s as if we are determined to bring the world crashing down around us. We have clearly gone insane.

—————————————
