When a Jew Laughs

Barry Rubin has just produced a startlingly good piece, which he begins:

There’s a saying that goes something like this: When things are bad, a Jew cries. When they get even worse, a Jew cries more. And when they even get worse, a Jew laughs. As indelicate as this may seem, the current situation makes me want to laugh.

I’m not sure that I could have said it better. Actually, I’m not sure that I could have said it at all, being that I’m not Jewish myself. My own thieving Scottish ancestors weren’t nearly as educated, long suffering or even erudite. (Of course, Clan Little was writ large in the annals of history as some of the best light cavalry in Europe – which is what happens when you make a habit of stealing horses.)

Reality

Helping people see what is real is a long, exhausting (and frustrating) process. Reality is such a harsh environment to live in, most of us would rather spend time with the alternative. I mean, who wouldn’t want to live a place where the sky is always blue and everyone is just so… nice.

However, spending too much time in a fantasy world can kill you. Living lives of fantasy killed the US economy. Clinging to the fantasy that Hitler wasn’t such a bad guy killed six million Jews. The fantasy of a world without God killed even more via communism.

On April 4th, it was my birthday, and like every other April 4th preceding it, I called my Dad because it was his birthday too. (Yup, I was born on my Dad’s birthday.) We talked for an hour and a half, and at the end of our conversation, my Dad said, “your mother and I watch the Glenn Beck show on the Internet.” I thought, “oh yeah, that Glenn Beck guy.” My Aunt and a couple other friends watch that show, too.

Hamas Loves Israel, Not Egypt

Hamas has finally declared its everlasting love and devotion to Israel. I knew that they must have been secretly in love with the ‘Zionist Entity’, but now we know. Hamas loves Israel, and they don’t care who knows it.

It’s this classic love story where a girl (or guy) desperately in love acts in an outrageously hateful way to get the attention of the one that she loves.

What evidence do we have of this heated devotion?

I know that you won’t believe me, so I’ll let Hamas speak for themselves. Here’s a quote from the Jerusalem Post:

I’ve spent some time worrying about this guy, so I am incredibly relieved that he has been granted asylum.

His name is Mosab Yousef. His father founded Hamas, and he’s a hero:
