Big Vacuum, part 2

There’s something in all of us that needs God.

Even Richard Dawkins says so, but in a completely different way.

The point is that we have a built-in need to believe in a power greater than ourselves. And, if you take that higher power out of someone’s life, they will go searching for another one.

That’s what’s happening with Islam. Europe has ‘successfully’ liberated themselves from the chains of the Roman Catholic Church. And, I can understand their general feeling of satisfaction at this accomplishment.

The Big Vacuum

The thing about being a wild-eyed fanatic is that you cannot shut up for long. It’s a problem. I just cannot shut up about Israel, Global Security, Foreign Policy, and anything else even remotely related to such things. Oh, I have other interests too, and I can’t seem to shut up about those either, but that’s for a different website.

However, you can get me to shut up when you turn off the flow of information. Keep me ’in the dark’, and I get kinda pale – moldy, even. Put me in an information vacuum, and I wilt.

Because There is a Pattern

I saw the movie Pi this week. It is an incredibly moving, and disturbing, movie. It was filmed in black and white – in grainy, high contrast. They used obsolete PCs, and they glued old circuit boards together and called it a mainframe. It was seriously low budget. It was about good and evil, obsession and migraines, patterns and the Universe.

It was great – especially if you are like me and have a background in science.

Patterns and the Universe. Have you noticed them? There is a rhythm, a beat, to the Universe. Sometimes it pulses quietly. Other times it pounds. And, when it’s syncopated and unpredictable, it’s only because we can’t hear the underlying tempo.

Now, let me get something straight here. I’m a little confused.

The Sarkozy government wants the rest of Europe to SCALE BACK on its involvement with Iran?

I hope that you don’t mind my incredulity, but isn’t that a bit tepid?

I’ve been racking my brain to find a suitable metaphor, and I think that I’ve hit on one. Y’all feel free to help me out with a better one.

What would you do if, say, a gang set up a gas station near your neighborhood with the goal of using the profits to create a drug lab? Near your neighborhood?

I’ve been thinking about Ahmadinejad’s confident claims that he can take out the US and Israel – and achieve dominance for Islam.

How could he possibly do that without the help of thermonuclear bombs in the multi-megaton range? We also call them hydrogen bombs, or H-bombs, and they are beyond his capability to make. And, I can’t believe that Russia would let him have any.

However, I was given the idea of a decapitation strike by WorldNet Daily. They talked about using Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). This EMP strike would only require a few medium-yield nuclear warheads and only a few medium range missiles – and every unshielded electronic element/device/thingy in the Western world would be toast.
