Read Someone Else

Welcome to a new and improved Israel Outlook. How is it improved?

Well, I’ve started writing again. THAT’s an improvement. Since the loveliest woman on the planet entered my life, I’ve not really had much to say, except “yes, dear.” Life has been good, and I don’t write much when that happens to me.

Life is still good, but I’m worried – not about MY future, but about yours. And, that’s enough to get me writing again. There are people that I care about in harms way. I cannot stay quiet while they lie in the path of a juggernaut of bad news.

I’m writing now to warn you, so that you can warn the people you love to get out of the way, also. Of course, the problem is that it’s hard to say what ‘get out of the way’ means.

I know what it means for me. For me, it means stay where I am and tell people about what I see. It also means continuing to spend time in Israel. I was going to do that anyway, but now there is even more reason to do so.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you all that you need to do. Only you can do that, and that means educating yourself. Someone really smart once said:

Where there is no counsel, the people fall;
But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

– Proverbs 11:14 (NKJV)

Your sources of information should be well informed, experienced, have integrity and be right at least some of the time. And, if your sources believe the bible is true and read it? Well, THAT source would be truly excellent.

We are entering a very crazy time… No, we HAVE entered a very crazy time, and it will take someone who is ‘on the ball’ to put it all into perspective. And, I think that the bible is the only book that can truly help you make sense of that perspective.

Biblical Perspective

Let me stop here for a minute and talk about The Bible. If you’ve been reading my stuff over the years, you know that I generally don’t write like this. I generally don’t mix my geopolitical/global-security viewpoint with my biblical one. Doing that is generally the path to crazy talk. But, this is the first time that the news headlines are mirrored in the pages of the Bible. (And, you’ve already seen me question my sanity.)

It is true that we have seen prophecies fulfilled in the past. Israel has returned to its land. Scientific knowledge has dramatically increased. People travel thousands of kilometers each year. War, and the reports of war are more and more numerous. But, those prophecies were something of a general indicator. They indicated that the end was coming, but they didn’t have “THIS IS IT” stamped all over them.

We now have the rise of something far more specific. The stage has been set for the War of Gog and Magog. The players are assembling, and you need a front row seat – the one closest to the exit.

But, that front row seat is only available to those who are reading their bible and paying attention. If you are NOT reading your bible, you are NOT going to ‘get it’. In fact, be radical and read it every single day. Make it the most important thing you do each day. Make it the first thing you do.

Eternity is long. Life is short. Read the manual.

Check out other people who are also reading their bible and have a view of what’s happening in the world.

Here’s your first piece of homework:

Read the book One Second After by William R. Forstchen

Here’s an excerpt from the Wikipedia article on the author:

William R. Forstchen (born 1950) is an American author who began publishing in 1983 with the novel Ice Prophet. He is a Professor of History and Faculty Fellow at Montreat College, in Montreat, North Carolina. He received his doctorate from Purdue University with specializations in Military History, the American Civil War and the History of Technology.

————-

In March 2009 One Second After, (Forge/St. Martin’s books) was released and immediately reached the New York Times best seller list where it remained for six weeks. Based upon several years of intensive research and interviews, it examines what might happen in a “typical” American town in the wake of an attack on the United States with “electro-magnetic pulse” (EMP) weapons. Similar in plotting to books such as On the Beach and Alas Babylon,  One Second After, is set in a small college town in western North Carolina and is a cautionary tale of the collapse of social order in the wake of an EMP strike. The book was cited on the floor of Congress and before the House Armed Services Committee by Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD), chair of the House Committee tasked to evaluate EMP weapons, as a realistic portrayal of the potential damage rendered by an EMP attack on the continental United States.

I don’t know the author, but I know his books. And this book appears to do an excellent job of introducing some very important ideas in a way that will help you understand them.

Here is a quote from Fortschen’s website:

I urge you to read [One Second After] because it is about us.   You, me, my daughter, my friends, your friends. . .our country.   EMP is a real threat, I believe the most underestimated threat in the history of our country.   In the late 1930s we completely underestimated the Japanese and the potentials of a new technology. . .carrier based aviation.    I’ve written two novels with Newt on this subject.     No one took the threat seriously and on December 7, 1941 close to three thousand Americans died.   The war that ensued would claim close to half a million American lives.      Pearl Harbor was a blow we could recover from and go on to eventual victory.    An EMP strike?    I believe it would be the death of America, the death of our children. . .it would be the end of the America we cherish and love. . .and plunge the few who survive into a new dark age.

We as citizens can indeed make the difference.   I will soon have a page up on this site about what you can do now to insure the safety of you and your family if we are struck and our nation is unprepared. . .and what we can all do as citizens to prepare for the worst, and also to make sure it does not happen.

Here are some YouTube videos that you should watch, connected to this book:

Could this be the reason why the United States seems to not be mentioned in any of the prophecies about this time?

Get the book and share what you learn with the people that you care about.

But, don’t stop there. In the hands of an excellent writer, a novel is uniquely able to present ideas and flesh out their implications. Few other mediums can really come close.

Your ‘next assignment’ will be to read the books by Joel C Rosenberg:

Movies

Movies are probably the only medium that comes close to the novel, in terms of delivering new ideas and concepts in a way that helps you understand them.

Watch the movie Obsession – http://www.obsessionthemovie.com

Rumors of War I

Rumors of War II

You can find the Obsession movie on sale, online. And you can watch the Rumors of War series by signing up for Glenn Beck’s Insider Extreme.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not try and get this content for free. It isn’t free, and anyone offering it for free via YouTube is not providing it to you honestly. The authors of these works spent time and money to put these resources together. They need to be compensated for their work so that they can continue their efforts.

One other movie that should chill you is the one that Reza Kahlili brought to our attention:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwiadYT-N9k (this one is free)

This movie was created by the army of Iran, approved by the highest leadership in Iran, and is currently being readied for distribution to mosques throughout the world. This is what they truly believe, and that fact should scare you to death.

Here is an unreliable source that you must double-check and triple-check – not because they’re dishonest, but because some of their sources are dishonest:

WorldNetDaily http://www.wnd.com/

However, WorldNetDaily has come through with some interesting stuff. Just don’t take anything they say at face value.

And then, there’s Glenn Beck.

Glenn Beck’s emotionalism makes me extremely uncomfortable. He often has a mocking tone, and that makes me very uncomfortable. He often goes off on irrelevant tangents.

Except for the fact that he’s consistently right, I wouldn’t pay attention to him. (And, I have tried to find excuses not to.) He is absolutely and utterly sincere. He is honest, a man of integrity, and someone who cares about things that matter.

By the way, Glenn is starting a new network called GBTV at www.gbtv.com. He’s put everything that he has into this, and I recommend that you sign up for this new venture.

I just wish that I could be as optimistic as he is.

One Hope

Let me end this piece with a little hope, and it really is the only hope that we have:

if my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

– 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ASV)

1 thought on “Read Someone Else

  1. Good Morning John,
This is a LOT of homework! I remember your passion for reading and I’m glad to see your passion for writting has returned. I’ll look into a few of these but having two young ones with a career make it hard to do this much reading and movie watching. Maybe if you could provide a “Readers Digest” version on a few of these…

Take care and tell Kwei that Greta, Audrey, Samuel and I all send our love. In all of the chaos that this world currently has, along with the insantiy that is right around the corner, I find comfort in knowing that my family will be spending our eternity with the Little family.

    Be safe and God bless,
    -Kevin
