When Awesome Power Knocks On Your Door

A friend of mine was telling me that her daughter in Israel said…

(This is how urban legends get started, but this is legit)

…that there is a US Aircraft Carrier off the coast of Israel.

She said that all the Americans in Israel are going “Woo Hoo!” And, the Israelis are feeling the dread of possible war.

I actually know the feeling from BOTH sides. I’ve lived in Israel long enough to be part Israeli, while still American, and I know the feeling of exhilaration of seeing my country (the US) demonstrate her power. However, I also know the feeling of dread when that demonstration of power might threaten the other ‘my country’ (Israel).

It puts me in an interesting position.

Or, maybe I should say that it helps me understand how others feel when the single most powerful weapon in the history of the world sits off of your coast.

When you say ‘Aircraft Carrier’, what you are really saying is ‘Aircraft Carrier Battle Group’. It is the most incredible weapon ever devised by man. Nothing can stand before it. Just one Battle Group could destroy an entire country in a day – and has. It is both an impregnable fortress and the most powerful offensive weapon ever. When a US Aircraft Carrier Battle Group comes knocking at your door, you invite them in for tea.

Or, even coffee.

But, a Battle Group also means that there is trouble ahead, and THAT is what makes Israelis (and me) nervous.

Let’s hope it makes the mulltards of Iran feel the same way.

  2. Hey John,

One thing you wrote yourself is “this is how urban legends start”. When I read your blogg entry I thought “oh shit” too, emphasizing of course more mit Israel then with the US. But on the other hand I remember how during the summer I spent in Israel at one point most people I knew where urban legending too: “My brother / sister / grandcousin / … at the army has had waaaay too many special trainings these days and won’t tell me what it is all about.” – “Oh yes! My boyfriend’s nephew, how’s working at the ministry of defense ‘s been behaving in a strange way too lately” and so on. And they warned me that war would start in summer because in Isreal wars always take place in summer.

But what came out of it in the end? Nothing. Nothing at all. It was nothing but rumors and especially in a country as small as Israel with a governmental and socio-economic elite as small as that rumors are circulating as fast and as easyly as in highschool.

IF there is a US battle group just offshore Israel it holds some threatening potencial yet it could mean that the US are finally supporting Israel against Iran and want to put some pressure on Iran, as Tedders already statet, so it’s not necessarily bad news. But up to now that battle group’s location isn’t proven.

Thanks anyways for that decent piece of intelligence.

  3. Hmm..I’d say you are more Israeli:)

    AND its about freaking time

“She said that all the Americans in Israel are going “Woo Hoo!” And, the Israelis are feeling the dread of possible war.”

Ummm..aren’t we ALREADY in a war? Since 9/11 weren’t we “officially at a war on terrorism”, and we have lost entirely to many human beings to not call it a war.
    So, do you mean..War
    or WAR?

The only news I hear is about some sicko calling 911 over 2,000 times and never getting caught.

  4. I’m not an educated War weapon person…
    but is this

    ‘Aircraft Carrier’

Any better than all of the nuclear weapons Iran has been making?
