Bigotry of ANY kind makes me upset. If you believe that you are better than ANY human being, you are a bigot.
I know that this sounds like a pretty harsh rule, and it is – partly because it’s a rule that accuses us all. We are all, in some way, bigots.Â
There is something inside of us that wants to say that we have more value than the person next to us. I don’t know how to describe that something in any other way than that it is evil.

I saw the movie Pi this week. It is an incredibly moving, and disturbing, movie. It was filmed in black and white – in grainy, high contrast. They used obsolete PCs, and they glued old circuit boards together and called it a mainframe. It was seriously low budget. It was about good and evil, obsession and migraines, patterns and the Universe.
It was great – especially if you are like me and have a background in science.
Patterns and the Universe. Have you noticed them? There is a rhythm, a beat, to the Universe. Sometimes it pulses quietly. Other times it pounds. And, when it’s syncopated and unpredictable, it’s only because we can’t hear the underlying tempo. Â

Now, let me get something straight here. I’m a little confused.
The Sarkozy government wants the rest of Europe to SCALE BACK on its involvement with Iran?
I hope that you don’t mind my incredulity, but isn’t that a bit tepid?
I’ve been racking my brain to find a suitable metaphor, and I think that I’ve hit on one. Y’all feel free to help me out with a better one.Â
What would you do if, say, a gang set up a gas station near your neighborhood with the goal of using the profits to create a drug lab? Near your neighborhood?

So, what are we to make of all this gloom and doom?
Well, it was a miracle that Israel survived the 1948 War of Independence. It was a miracle that Israel survived the 1967 Six Day War. It was a miracle that Israel survived the 1973 Yom Kippur War. And, with all the intelligence that we received after-the-fact, it was a miracle that Israel was provoked into invading Lebanon on June 6, 1982.

The Doomsday piece that I wrote on Thursday night was one of the most difficult that I have ever written. It required a lot of research, which is what you would expect of a piece like that. But, the truly hardest part was the knowledge that this scenario was all too real.
When I finished, I was so depressed that I could hardly move. It was crushing.
