The US is building up its power in the Persian Gulf and that is an indicator that America is treating the development of Iran’s nuclear weapons seriously. It’s also an indication that America is planning a military solution to the issue, should diplomacy fail.
In her article, “From crisis to opportunity“, Gabrielle Rifkind gives us some hope that diplomatic efforts will succeed. She says here:

I love the arrogance of Ahmadinenoodle, as my friend Marallyn from Shalom from Jerusalem calls him. He demands that the world be even handed with him. He is willing to stop enriching Uranium, as long as the rest of the world does as well.
Isn’t that fair?
Of course, it’s fair. But then again, we wouldn’t care if they had nuclear weapons if they were a country like, say, Belgium or The U.K. When was the last time that Belgium threatened to wipe out the Netherlands?

One interesting observation put forward by Dr. Bernard Lewis in his interview with The Jerusalem Post (‘The Iranians do not expect to be attacked’, Jan. 31, 2007), is this one:Â
The Arab states are very concerned about the Shia revolution. They see a militant, expansionist Shia movement which already seems to be spreading from Iran to Iraq, through Syria to Lebanon, all the way across to the Mediterranean and eastward to Afghanistan and Pakistan and so on.

Yesterday, I was reading some posts by Sandmonkey, and I laughed so hard that I almost fell out of my chair. That guy never fails to pry a laugh out of me. Some of his stuff is funny because I know the Middle East. And some of it is funny because it just is – which means that everyone will probably get it. (However, be warned that he can be a bit crude.)
Anyway, he posted a link to a cute video that ran as an advertisement on Egyptian TV a couple years ago. It was one of those Wazzap adverts localised for a local Egyptian cellular phone service. But, on the YouTube sidebar, there was this darkly humorous ad titled “Arab blowing himself up”.

I am always on the lookout for new additions to my growing Honor Roll, and today I have a new addition:
Irshad Manji
She lives under threat of death every day and has little chance of dying of old age. Someone, somewhere, someday is going to kill her.
Why?
Because she is a Muslim that dares to lay bare the corruption at the heart of those who control discourse in Islam. She is a brave (and beautiful) Muslim who deserves every word of praise. I am in awe.
(Which means, of course that she is awesome.)
