On Thursday, I said that I understood why the Palestinians hate.
And, with all the sympathetic attention that the Palestinians are getting in the media, you’d hafta be blind, deaf and dumb (and stupid) not to understand why the Palestinians hate.
Of course, that means you and I are in a good position to forgive the Palestinians for the evil that they have done in the name of hatred. It means that I can forgive them for shooting up my neighborhood and murdering my neighbors. It means that I can forgive them for bombing a packed bus of men, women and children just down the street from my apartment.
It means that you and I can move forward. It means that we can take advantage of opportunities for peace when they appear.
Unfortunately, the Palestinians don’t understand Israel and Israelis. And, this is an interesting point that will take several blog entries to explain. Let me summarize them here:
- Do NOT understand Israel and Israelis, except in a very superficial way
- See the Israeli capacity for forgiveness as a sign of weakness.
- Quash any capacity for forgiveness in their own society, because they see it as a sign of weakness.
- Do NOT understand democracy, except in a very superficial way.
Those four points (and more) illustrate the doom of the Palestinians. Because they do not understand Israel… Because they see forgiveness as a sign of weakness… Because they do not understand democracy…
…they are doomed to suffer poverty and violence. It means that they will perfect their hate until it destroys them. It means that they will exhaust themselves in futile demonstrations of violence. It means that they will continue to tear their society apart from within. It means that their children are destined to always be the beggars on the stage of world opinion.
It means that the Palestinians will never see the opportunities before them because they have actively destroyed, within themselves, any capacity to accept those opportunities.
There can be no epitaph more sad.
