When the last Iranian filed out of the last polling station June 24th, 2005, a choice had been made – a decision taken. Iran voted to bring in the Mahdi.
That decision will shake the world in ways that it has not been shaken since the coming of Hitler.
Like prewar Germany, Iranians feel abused by the western powers. Like prewar Germany, the Iranians need someone to give them pride in themselves.
Like prewar Germany, they chose a brilliant, charismatic fanatic.
And, he really looks like a nice guy.
He’s self-deprecating.
He’s a professor of civil engineering.

Worried about Iran?
Anxious?
That’s good. It shows that you are paying attention.
However, worry and anxiety connote uncertainty coupled with fear. You worry and agonize over something that you aren’t really sure about.
You don’t KNOW how much a threat Iran is.
You can’t be CERTAIN that Iran will develop nuclear weapons and turn them against Israel and the rest of the world.
You aren’t SURE that Iran won’t bow to Western pressure.
How can you be?
Iran isn’t in your neighborhood.
You think about Iran only when she is headline news.

We live in a world of spin. Every bit of news that we receive has been picked over and filtered to the point where it is barely recognizable as anything that is true. Your magazines decide what you want to read. Your newspapers choose what goes on page one. Your radio station decides what will fit at the top of the hour. And, the talking heads offer you a nightly dose of pabulum via the one-eyed god in your living room.

That’s right. We’re making progress. We have a new theme. We have space for sponsors.
After a Little fiddling, I’ll be ready to tell you how awful the world is – and what nice people y’all are.
Please excuse the mess while I try to work out how all this works.

I just had something pretty cool happen.
Someone sent an email criticizing me for missing Wednesday’s blog, and shifting Sunday’s to Mondays.
A criticism is cool?
To us writers, criticism is VERY cool. It means that someone is paying attention and getting something out of your efforts. That’s good.
However, it is also true that I have been a bit lazy in doing these updates. I am afraid that one of my many failings is big-project-itis.
That’s right. I like nothing more than to sink my teeth into a really BIG project, wrestle it to the ground and give it a good shake. Unfortunately, that means blogs like this can miss an update or two.
